India is known as the ‘pharmacy of the world’. And not without reason.
The pharmaceutical industry is one of India’s biggest success stories. It supplies one in every five generic medicines consumed globally and is one of the world’s largest vaccine manufacturers. Its reputation has been built, over the years, on precision, quality, scale, and, of course, people.
The pharma sector in India employs an estimated 2.7 million people directly and indirectly, accounts for more than 8% of the global API (active pharmaceutical ingredient) industry, and is projected to grow to $130 billion by 2030 and touch $450 billion by 2047.
