Ask Swiggy co-founder Sriharsha Majety to recommend books about running a company, and ‘Working Backwards’ will figure in his first few choices. The book gives an insider’s breakdown of Amazon’s approach to culture and best practices. It’s also one of the closest ways to describe Swiggy’s cultural foundation.

Multiple aspects of how Swiggy’s leadership operates today look like the practices of the world’s most consumer-centric company. For example, Swiggy’s belief in writing detailed internal notes styled like press releases whose target audience is customers. These notes speak about new initiatives and products that are under development, mirroring Amazon’s “working backward” approach.

Another interesting bit is the company’s philosophy of an M-team (management team), which mirrors Jeff Bezos’ S-team, a group of the founder’s most trusted advisers who help set the strategic direction of the firm and big ideas.

Swiggy’s M-team includes co-founders Sriharsha Majety, Nandan Reddy and Phani Kishan as well as CTO Dale Vaz, CFO Rahul Bothra, and CHRO Girish Menon.
