8 MINS READBack in the day, it was not unusual for Kabeer Biswas, founder of hyperlocal delivery services provider Dunzo, to personally make deliveries to customers. That, in fact, is how he first met two of the company's senior leaders.
Early in 2015, Biswas was making a delivery to corporate lawyer Geetanjali Swamy’s residence. They chatted at her doorstep. “I remember I had a term sheet, and I asked her, ‘Can you look at this term sheet? I need to be able to get back to some people,’” Biswas recalls. Since then Swamy has pored over every business document that has required Biswas’ signature at Dunzo. She eventually joined the company in 2020 and today heads the legal and people functions as Vice President.
Co-founder Dalvir Suri helped Biswas set up a website for Dunzo in 2014, when it was starting up. At the time he was with Bengaluru-based Cybrilla Technologies as head of operations. He, too, was a Dunzo user, says Biswas. “I remember one of the first orders that he had placed was for his plus-one’s cycle, which needed to get serviced at (sporting goods retailer) Decathlon. I actually picked up the cycle, took it to Decathlon, got it serviced and delivered it back,” he said. Today, Suri leads the B2B business as head of Dunzo Merchant Services (DMS).
During the early years, as it went about building a business, Dunzo delivered every thing from keys to documents. Early users such as Geetanjali and Suri came to depend on and believe in the bridge the company created, which had not existed before.
