India’s real money gaming companies are struggling to come to terms with the new reality after Parliament passed a law that effectively puts a question mark on their existence.
The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, approved by Parliament on Thursday, treats any game involving real money stakes as gambling and will become law once President Droupadi Murmu gives her approval.
According to an industry source, real money gaming (RMG) companies are considering various options, even as they take steps to shut down their RMG segment and continue operating their free-to-play (F2P) games. The options include approaching the courts, said the source, who added that companies could explore opening up the platform for advertisements.
