'Baby’ IIMs grapple with slippage in rankings, weaker placements

Several newer IIMs are struggling with declining NIRF ranks, weakening offers, and recruiter indifference. Without alumni depth and industry ties, their gap with legacy IIMs continues to grow.

From a common man’s standpoint, a salary of Rs 8 lakh a year doesn’t seem so bad, that too in a country where an annual salary of Rs 13.52 lakh takes you to the top 10 per cent of the population. But Sonik Sourabh’s jaw dropped when, in response to his RTI query earlier this year, he learned that this was the annual CTC offered to two graduates of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Amritsar. The CTC level was subpar for someone with the prestigious IIM tag, and thus the shock.
