In 2021, the government launched the ambitious India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), offering incentives of over $10 billion, in a bid to make the country self-reliant in chips. With ten projects approved under the Mission, it’s time for a second version of ISM. The Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) has reportedly sought over $15 billion for the new scheme. MeitY has also submitted a report to the Ministry of Finance on the outcomes of the first phase along with a comparative analysis of the sops offered by other countries.
