India’s push to digitise school fee payments via UPI is a promising step toward transparency and ease, but faces major infrastructural and behavioural hurdles.

Whether you’re buying your friends breakfast at an upmarket cafe or shopping for trinkets at the local Sunday bazaar, UPI payments have become ubiquitous for urban adults. After all, it’s as seamless as scanning a QR code. An Amazon-Kearney survey titled ‘How India Pays’ released earlier this month shows how urban India, especially the youth, are increasingly preferring UPI to make payments in almost all categories.
