The world seems like a deer caught in the headlights of the AI glare. It can see the AI train hurtling down at a 100 mph speed, but is mostly transfixed and hypnotised by its promise of a shining bright future, even if it comes at an unprecedented cost.
The impact of AI is here and now. Most people believe that this disruption lies in the future, where AI will evolve into omniscient and omnipotent AGI and potentially take over the world. However, anyone who has been a victim of fraud carried out by a call centre should realise that they have been taken advantage of by a scammer who was a BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) employee displaced by AI.
The change is happening fast, and companies are not just underestimating the impact of the disruption on people and society, but also on themselves. The disruption is happening in real time. Many had earlier warned that when it happens, it would be either ignored, or worse, seen as inevitable.
