What Urban Company’s pension push reveals about gig worker welfare in India

Urban Company’s HDFC pension tie-up underscores the widening gap between platform-defined benefits and workers’ demand for statutory social security.

Earlier this week, Urban Company partnered with HDFC Pension to roll out voluntary enrolment into the National Pension System (NPS) for over 50,000 service professionals on its platform.

The initiative allows workers to make small, regular contributions towards building a retirement corpus, with benefits available either as a lump sum or through periodic payouts.
