The slow crawl of direct mutual funds in India

Multiple Indian wealthtech platforms had hoped that embracing direct mutual funds would spur their growth. A few years on, the vast majority of Indian consumers still opt for the less cost-efficient regular mutual funds.

For years now, the likes of Groww, Zerodha, and Paytm Money have invested significantly in pushing direct mutual funds. However, despite massive ad campaigns, regular mutual fund plans are still most popular among Indian consumers, according to data from industry sources.
